KO Liang-Chih is a skilled calligrapher and regards Chinese characters as a form of visual art for conveying personal aesthetics and emotional states. Twelve Birds Singing is inspired by his personal experience of watching various birds perched on stone columns in a lake when touring Hyde Park in London. The 12 characters represent the eastern philosophy of the Chinese zodiac Different brushstrokes and pictographic symbols were used, allowing the calligraphy to present different forms, characteristics, and poses of 12 bird species. KO Liang-Chih uses rhythmic brushstrokes as a medium conveying fantasies and personal experiences about life.
