HUANG Po-Wei uses the human body as a media of artistic presentation to convey the insecurity of life. Weight Loss Plan is a bizarre composition where a group of people have packed themselves into a giant furnace to remove fat from their bodies. The roaring flames, however, have reduced their bodies into charred corpses and even wisps of white smoke, allowing them to continue their existence in a very different form. HUANG Po-Wei uses this work as an attempt to convey inner anxieties and desires for better external appearances of modern cosmopolitans in response to the rapidly changing outside world. Bodies are dissected and re-assembled, while smoke is regarded as an epitome to be emulated. The work thus illustrates the relationships between modern cosmopolitans and nature itself.
