TANG Tang-Fa focuses on creating art based on everyday life. Everyday items in the lives of Taiwanese people are often used as the subject of his artwork so as to convey the unique cultural landscape of Taiwanese society. Celery is from an art project where he rented a stall in the market. Instead of selling fresh produce, fish, or meat, the artist sold these grocery items which were painted instead. The red plastic basket shown in the artwork and the celery recreated by the artist’s painting skills directly convey the vibrant vitality of the daily lives led by the common people. TANG Tang-Fa uses paintings and installation art to allow public access to artworks for the purposes of nourishing their aesthetic lifestyles and displaying the vibrant artistic elements that exist in the lives of ordinary Taiwanese people.
