SHEN Chin-Yuan’s works are based on records of daily activities. Having lived in various countries, his works include both emotions and impacts derived from eastern and western cultures. My Mercedes is a surreal figurative presentation. A beautiful horse is depicted in the black and white composition, with meticulously illustrated hair and mane that shine with a warm hue. A drive motor seems to have been installed within the body of the horse, the motor serving as a metaphor for its lightning-like speed. The spreading plains in the background are linked to the memories and spatial dimensions witnessed during past travels, conveying the sense of isolation in a foreign land. SHEN Chin-Yuan creates a montage of memory fragments, leading the audience to a journey that takes them across spatial dimensions of the past and the unknown future.
