Routine and family elements are the core focus of CHENG Hsiu-Ju’s creations. The artist uses spatial, material, and bodily elements to generate familiar symbols that people can find in their everyday lives. Among the Space of Place- Wallpaper Series#3 uses decorative wallpaper as a medium of installation artwork in order to investigate the presence and absence of homes and items. The wooden installations allow the wallpaper to create an independent space, while the complicated patterns subconsciously blend together with the pale markings of the mirror frame, leaving a trail for the position, shape, and symbol of the object created after extended periods of time. CHENG Hsiu-Ju uses the invisible traces in space left by an object to investigate our sense of time and lifestyle habits within this dimension.
