CHAN Chih-Ping is skilled in using wooden sculptures to provide a realistic presentation of the human form while capturing the essence of various events we see today. Mini-cosplay~カカロットis based on a popular manga character Goku. The artist deliberately selected the classical outfit of the manga character as the cosplay costume of the subject of the work. The man wears a placid expression, suggesting the subconscious state of stupor that people experience under the influence of popular culture. The skin is deliberately presented in a flowing form as a subtle metaphor for complicated interpersonal and inner relationships and portions of the body that have been lost through the process. CHAN Chih-Ping uses symbols and metaphors to reflect upon changing cultural values in the face of popular culture and capitalism.
