作品賞析
HONG Zi-We’s panel art “Sitting Quietly” is based on tomb frescoes, projecting, into the inner world of modern audiences, the fantasies of ancient people about the afterlife and the future. Every work was treated as a mirror to reflect upon a virtual world. The work has a symmetrical composition, and depicts servant girls carrying an official’s cap and vase, symbols of political fortune and security. The center of the fresco is the seat reserved for the occupant of the tomb, deliberately left empty to symbolize the past, present, and the unknown future. “Sitting quietly” refers to a peaceful slumber. The tomb fresco reflects the imaginations and faith that people in ancient times have for the afterlife so as to achieve spiritual solace. HONG Zi-We uses this series of artworks to contemplate the fleeting and changing nature of life and to unearth the hidden self.
