CHIU Kuo-Chun uses photography as a creative media. “The Scene of Flowing-Amusement 01” is a photograph of a once popular waterfront theme park in Tainan and an attempt to record a past that no longer exists today. The abandoned state of the theme park makes it look like a surreal and isolated sanctuary. CHIU Kuo-Chun uses a traditional camera with several hours of exposure time to introduce artificial lighting in the surroundings and to develop the dilapidated walls, freezing the ridiculous moment of replacement. The quick pace of social changes led to an equally fast pace where many man-made locations were left forgotten. CHIO Kuo-Chun uses photography as a summoning ritual to bring back dead, isolated buildings to life, imparting to them with a strange yet eternal existence in an exotic world of flowing lights.
