WU Yun-Feng was born in Hong Kong but took up residence in Taiwan, and is skilled in applying ink, glue paint, paper, and embroidery in her various creations that often feature the element of a masked lady inspired by the masked heroines often depicted in the black-and-white Cantonese movies of the 1960s. The works also project various observations and feelings she experienced in the actual world. “Save Myself” shows a group of heroines engaged in self-rescue training, and are depicted on all fours, crawling, or swimming. The strange-looking fleshy plants around them reflect the surreal imaginations during survival encounters and difficulties. WU Yun-Feng uses embroidery as a form of artistic expression capable of going beyond the boundaries of craft and art, using it to face the ridiculous nature of real life with humor.
