WANG An-Shen has focused on photography for decades, searching for inspiration and topics from life while using photographic composition and techniques to create clean, crisp works filled with visual tension. The work “Stairs” portrays a flight of stairs in National Taichung Theater from a downward looking perspective and captures a unique visual display for an endless climb. WANG An-Shen deliberately increased the black-white contrast to highlight the powerful shades and lines within the work, generating a photograph that looks almost like a piece of abstract art. The people ascending the spiraling stairs provide a poetic portrayal of randomness and fate, presenting the interactive relationship between people and their surroundings.
