CHANG Jui-Hsien uses portable video recording tools to search for elements and landscapes on the brink of collapse or destruction. Pyramid Illusions is one of his Dark Shadow of the Early Spring Series. It’s a photograph taken from Shimen in Tainan. The photograph then undergoes software adjustments, transforming contents to depict a brightly colored digital imagery. The dark, subsumed image shows three small hills glowing with a golden halo from a detailed texture that gave a material illusion as though the lights have been painted on the composition. CHANG Jui-Hsien uses the contrasting colors to convey the sense of depression and uncertainty of life. The dark, shadowy surfaces reflect the atmosphere of death, disappearance, and lack of security. He has continued to collect photographs of outdoor images in an attempt to delay the disappearance of certain sceneries in the context of rapid changes in the external world.
