LIN Guan-Ming is skilled in using video art to convey imaginations and contemplation regarding the act of “seeing”. Boundless Sea provides a horizontally moving perspective of a coastal setting. The sounds of lapping waves create a gradual and overlapping composition where ocean, people, and embankments overlap each other. The corridor-like frames dissect the temporal elements within the image, depriving the video of a starting or ending point. To LIN Guan-Ming, Taiwan is covered with a vast ocean except for the island part. The view of the ocean seems similar throughout Taiwan’s coastlines, allowing time to achieve a temporary standstill at the place. He uses this work to explore the relationship between videos and personal presence as well as the intangible sense of time within the video.
