HUANG Chun-Chia’s ink painting The Water and the Sky Merge in One Color uses different expressions of ink patches and lines to create 6 types of inner worlds achieved through abstract ink painting. The five linked panels portray different patterns and changes of ink patches and blank areas. Some panels show large blank space and dry brushstrokes, some show short, scattered lines, while others are completely covered by thick strokes of ink applied back and forth across the composition. Although the panels display only two elements of black ink and lines, these elements could be merged to create infinite combinations. HUANG Chun-Chia blurs the boundaries of ink painting and calligraphy, integrates the elements of traditional and modern art, and uses ink rhythms and lines to convey states of being and emotions, achieving the ultimate display of painting and calligraphic art.
