After publishing a conceptual ink installation artwork, CHANG Yung-Chung continued to release abstract watercolors and other conceptual behavioral artworks and became one of the most representative artists of the development of modern art in Taiwan. The Ascent of Civilization 7 is one of his most important series. The canvas is dissected into numerous tiny blocks and then layered over by blue and purple patches and areas that have been left blank, creating what appears to be a flat, urban landscape. Each color block can be viewed in its isolation as an independent and abstract entity, and can be visually assembled to create houses. The artwork conveys the rapid development of urban construction while conveying the concepts of abstract art.
