作品賞析
CHANG Yung-Chung is a pioneer of modern ink painting in Taiwan, and is skilled at adopting a material and non-graphical mindset to innovate ink painting concepts and media. Chinese Brush Painting Installation was made in the 1980s. The artist first created abstract patches of ink on numerous Xuan paper canvas and then rolled them up before pulling at the rolled canvas through the center to create a spiral shape that exhibits the random pattern of ink splashes. Rolls of ink paintings created using red, black, and white colored inks are arranged in a minimalist, orderly, and rational three-by-three formation that is also richly imbued with visual and spatial rhythms. CHANG Yung-Chung goes beyond restrictions of ink, paper, and technical restrictions, adopting a contradictory artistic language of harmony and disruption to revolutionize and liberate ink painting conventions.
