CHANG Chih-Chia’s painting uses a horizontal, camera-like angle to capture moving landscapes observed during his travels. Windmill is an ink painting where a large area was left blank to represent the heavens, forming a distinct division between the white and black areas in the composition. The meandering path in the foreground guides the viewer’s attention towards the windmills and road lights in the far distance that happen to be obscured by distance, while a gentle waft of dust and grit rising from the ground communicates the flow of air across the composition. CHANG Chih-Chia retains traces of his brush strokes during the creative process, and overlaps minerals of various particle sizes to enhance the thickness and layering of the simplified composition.
