CHANG Yu-Ya’s panel print Gather NO.2 conveys the emotions of mutual company inspired by a trip to the zoo where she witnessed a female hippopotamus teaching its calf to walk, with the two animals trudging slowly along the fence. CHANG Yu-Ya linked this sight to her own life where families and friends relied on their emotional ties and helped each other, transforming herself into a small, white boat linked to the people around her. The white areas represent gaps waiting to absorb new knowledge, dispelling the bland, gray undertones of the entire composition to generate a simple, condensed state. Dynamic lines and shapes are also used to convey a mental map of CHANG Yu-Ya’s spiritual emotions.
