YAO Jui-Chung’s creations include a wide range of subjects and primarily focus on investigating the bizarre aspects of the human world. Fairyland : Lengthy River explores the orthodoxy of classical ink paintings. The artwork does not encompass the cultural sophistication or pretense of elegance. Instead, epic landscapes are converted into an inward projection and autobiographical artwork. Ballpoint pens are used inplace of ink, with repeated physical and mechanical motions generating overlapping strokes and patterns that were then transferred via linen printing. The artwork uses dark ink tones as the base and golden outlines to form peaks, rivers, trees, and rocks, building an imposing yet dark atmosphere. YAO Jui-Chung revolutionized the medium of traditional landscape painting to contemplate the traditional aesthetics of ink painting. The artistic process also serves as an important means of self-refinement.
