CHEN Wei-Hsun’s artworks often feature old, collapsing buildings to remind viewers of forgotten things and landscapes. Unknown – Belongs features a lonely, dilapidated ruin of a house placed in a surreal setting. The house is wrapped in yellow strips like bandages wrapped around a wounded patient, or an attempt to disguise the defects to present the house as a gift box. The houses are wrapped in yellow straps, serving as a subsumed metaphor of protest made by the house to escape its fate of destruction. Animals around the house, however, look on as spectators. CHEN Wei-Hsun uses these abandoned old buildings to convey the passage of fate and fragility of life as well as the helplessness and loneliness of the modern individual.
