作品賞析
CHEN Wei-Hsun’s artworks often feature old, collapsing buildings to remind viewers of forgotten things and landscapes. Remnant – Belongs displays a surreal setting with two lonesome and dilapidated ruins that used to be houses. The white lines on the asphalt symbolize an environment that is about to be reorganized and seal the fate of the ruins for destruction. However, the houses are wrapped in yellow straps like gift boxes, serving as a subsumed metaphor of protest made by the house to escape its fate of destruction. Animals around the house, however, look on as spectators. CHEN Wei-Hsun uses these abandoned old buildings to convey the passage of fate and fragility of life as well as the helplessness and loneliness of the modern individual.
