YEH Po-Yu’s light-hearted ink paintings express his view and attitude towards life. Ink and water color are combined to create a brilliant collision of colors, with the characteristic of paper canvas that absorbs very little ink. Also, characters presented in his works often appear in impossible scales which creates a humorous effect. Flames Burn target middle-aged individuals. Unlike the elderly and the youths, middle-aged individuals are subject to greater social pressure and scrutiny, a fact illustrated by surrounding the middle-aged man with flames. Nevertheless, the man remains unaffected by the social judgment of his value, successfully and independently seeking refuge when facing with an overwhelming number of choices.
