CHANG Chan’s The Beautiful Landscape in the City is a painting of a natural sanctuary on a transformer box. The animated work shows the transformer box painting coming to life, with the flowing waterfall as well as birds and small creatures attracted to the scene, creating a beauteous and immersive sight for the viewers. The point of view is then extended to reveal a road with several transformer boxes, showing that the sights were just a form of compensation and a facade created by humans after destroying the natural landscape that existed here before. The entire work therefore served as an analogy on the mutual dependence and contradictions between natural environments and artificial cities.
