CHANG Hsiao-Chen’s photographic works were inspired by the horizontal scrolls of traditional ink paintings. Special finishing such as color offsets and tattering help create a strongly nostalgic atmosphere, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the historical boulevards. Digital assemblage was utilized to recreate entire streets, generating an epic sense of visual expansiveness. Daan Hospital is a shot of a historical boulevard. The brick building towards the right of the picture is the historical site where CHIANG Wei-Shui established Daan Hospital and the Cultural Association. This building is contrasted against I-Mei food and other shops at the left side of the composition to show how time has changed the architectural forms. Instead of using digital photography that offers greater speed and higher volumes of visual information, CHANG Hsiao-Chen relied upon his mastery of traditional photography to generate aesthetic images that have been forgotten in time.
