SHIH Chih-Han used a dinner table as a symbol to convey the disappearance of family gatherings and rekindle emotions related to the family. Mother’s Dinner is based upon observations of the everyday activities of the artist’s parents to record the most memorable moments. A huge pot of food is placed on a dinner table with a red tablecloth, but only a single set of utensils has been laid out. This seems to suggest that the mother has been preparing dinner, but the other dishes were held in plastic bags or glass jars. This suggested the simplification of dinner preparations once children left home.
