KUAN Meng-Hsuan uses illustrations to explore the relationship between nature, animals, and people, and often employing a story tale narrative and an animal’s perspective to project personal feelings. The Pitch-dark Sea #1, 2, 3 is an artwork of 3 panels that starts from a close-up and withdraws quickly to far view as viewers follow a dog’s lonely journey through some black colored plains. However, the next scene shows the dog facing the pitch-dark oceans all by himself. The work conveys the artist’s sympathy for stray animals as well as the lonesome feelings associated with these creatures.
