CHEN Shao-Yen’s artworks of urban landscapes are connected to the experiences from an urban lifestyle. Calm Travel- Guiyang Street illustrates a scene in the rain. The artist employed black and white color tones and lines to recreate trails of water, overlapping them to create a fuzzy view that hides blocks of buildings, roadside trees, and pedestrians. People tend to dislike rain, but the occasional shower provides a welcoming sense of coolness that washes away vexing thoughts. CHEN Shao-Yen employed the scene of urban rain to communicate the fickle and changing nature of urban space, city climate, and personal feelings.
