HSU Ming-Jen uses the characteristics of paper and charcoal to transform fleeting landscapes that the artist had witnessed into depictions ravaged by time as proof of existence for a particular moment in life. Self-made charcoal and paper were used to create these personal and spiritual stanzas. Scenery 17 was created by repeatedly rubbing charcoal on rough paper, generating a basic material of the most original texture and a fuzzy base for creative work. The blurry picture hides a house with a slanting roof to occupy the entire scenery.
