The ink works of HSU Chun-Wei make use of illustrations of animal forms and characteristics to communicate the odd conditions of modern everyday life that people engage in. Hybridity shows a flatfish hidden underneath layers of sand and decorated with various forms of shells and coral. This allowed the flatfish to conceal itself to become part of the seabed. HSU Chun-Wei made use of this characteristic to create an analogy of people’s life and the cookie cutter model of growing up. Social training makes people accept various forms of pre-processed information and force them to hide their true self in fear of being different from others. In response to this, people gradually acquiesced to covering themselves in the protective colors of the general society in order to earn group recognition.
