LIN Yi-Wen is a skilled ink painter and employs traditional techniques to depict scenes that go beyond traditional artworks, integrating modern images and fantasies. Such works allow her to develop personal experiences into concepts manifested in her physical artworks. Rip is created using gentle ink tones and light shades contrasted against blank areas on the canvas, transferring the focus upon the meticulously illustrated vegetable at the bottom. This seemingly simple-looking cabbage has been dissected in half, revealing factories and components of unknown functions not unlike that of an artificial urban landscape. This composition expresses the artist’s observation of our ever-dwindling rustic landscapes, condensed upon a domesticated local vegetable to convey her personal identity and reflections upon her home.
