LIN Yi-Wen is skilled in using ink paints to express her skepticism of our physical world. Floating focuses upon the relationship between cities and their surroundings, depicting an island floating amidst the ocean. Waves lap at the island blanketed by a coat of roots and stems of various thicknesses and densities. Detailed study reveal that both ends of the island appear like root ends of a plant, making us wonder if this landform is an island or simply an organic mass floating above the ocean surface. The canvas shows a gentle elegance that is nevertheless ethereal in nature. LIN Yi-Wen uses this work to express the aimlessness of the island she is living in and its inability to take roots anywhere.
