SUN Min-Feng selected the lotus as her creative material, with the creative process serving as a mirror of her inner-self. Olive green is employed as the overall tone of Spread. The lotus flowers and branches form the basic elements, outlined in crisp, clean lines and uniformly filled with a single color tone. Pieces and patches on the canvas are arranged in a way to form a simple yet poetic and melodious composition that expresses the artist’s personal calmness and disregard for material achievements. SUN Min-Feng uses this work to express her personal response and opinions about life, and believes that people leading stressful modern lifestyles can still preserve and develop graceful virtues if their hearts remain calm, pure, and unaffected by materialist quarrels.
