SUN Min-Feng selected the lotus as her creative material, with the creative process serving as a mirror of her inner-self. In Universe Life Lotus, geometric lines were utilized to create leaves and branches in the form of blocks and plates that are then assembled and stacked upon each other. The entire pattern is wholly painted using a bright metallic yellow tone that forms a warm contrast against the cold and grayish-blue water surface. This work allowed SUN Min-Feng to communicate the need to maintain purity and openness of mind despite living in a chaotic and boisterous environment. By creating a natural landscape with simple composition clad in conflicting cold and warm color tones, the artist successfully demonstrated her deep understanding of Eastern art philosophies.
