HUANG Yu-Tzu uses animals that she comes in contact with every day as her artistic inspirations. In Dog, HUANG Yu-Tzu has targeted dogs that are caged or arrayed in glass display cases in shops. Conventional appearances of the animals have been stripped away, rendering them in an abstract form of blackish and mottled mass filled with dense, hair-like brush strokes that dominate the center of the composition. Careful scrutiny reveals fleeting images of a dog with its tongue hanging out and happily looking at us with large sparkling eyes. The background is depicted using blue wavy stripes like the hair shed by the animal. HUANG Yu-Tzu has attempted to use abstract and intangible imageries to depict animals living in the human world and how she personally feels about them.
