HSIAO Chu-Sheng is skilled in ink painting and his works often depict characters from after the Han Dynasty. HSIAO Chu-Sheng has often incorporated folk and popular cultural elements within his works, depicting ink paintings of characters reimagined in novel ideas. In Electric-Techno Neon Gods. A, HSIAO Chu-Sheng has portrayed characters that appear in modern Taiwanese temple festivals. Unlike traditional temple festivals, modern temple festivals have included vast quantities of modern elements such as techno music and dance steps in order to attract the younger generation. These steps have been fully presented to showcase modern Taiwanese folk culture. HSIAO Chu-Sheng is also concerned with the problems associated with modernization such as changes to folk culture and educational issues with our youths. This artwork serves as a means for helping viewers reflect upon the pros and cons of modern development in Taiwan.
