SHIH Ju-Hsuan is skilled in acrylic painting and layering, using large strokes to create unique portraits. Unlike most portraits that aim for realism, SHIH Ju-Hsuan’s works takes a unique angle and perspective to highlight the unique personality and self-consciousness. In Existence II, the figure is staring at the front, her lips lightly parted in what seems like a helpless expression. Her shoulders are sloped downwards, as though they’re held down by reality. SHIH Ju-Hsuan’s works allow viewers to experience the sense of physical depletion and isolation that result as people struggle to pursue their desires in the material world.
