LIAO Yu-An uses his own physical and mental status as an inspiration to portray various phenomenon in modern civilizations and societies and highlight the complexities and difficulties of interpersonal relationships. His works are inspired by pop art, animation, and comic and are characterized by exaggerated body language and two-dimensional symbols. In On-the-Spot Vacation Mode Practice No.2, a half-man beast holding a small gift in his hand has collapsed on the floor. His comical actions seem to portray his lack of courage of presenting the gift, serving as a caricature of the nervousness experienced by people living in the modern society. LIAO Yu-An dramatized his inner nervousness into over-the-top actions, creating a unique organism as a vessel of his inner self while comically emulating the awkwardness and anxiety of modern life.
