Artist CHANG Yueh-Pin’s creation tires to have the dialogue with audiences through the language of the image. In his work The New Landscape, he combines photography with ink landscape painting and totally changes the material definition for the traditional landscape painting. In the image, the blue sky and white clouds serve as the background. Triangular metal saws are inserted and serve as the symbol of high and majestic mountains. CHANG Yueh-Pin pastes the texture of mountains and rocks in traditional ink paintings to the saws. He makes the whole image deliver the surreal and bizarre beauty through digital processing. With the parallel of saws in modern industry and techniques of traditional ink paintings, CHANG Yueh-Pin creates the special atmosphere of landscape painting. It contains both traditional and modern cultural elements and presents the modern and unique “new landscape.”
