Artist KAO Zhao-Liang is adept at expressing life’s subtler emotions through the art of the still life. The subject of his piece Faded Dreams is an indoor scene from daily life. In it, he deftly portrays an everyday scene of articles such as a mirror, a clock and a pair of eyeglasses haphazardly strewn on a dresser. Sunlight streaming in from outside illuminates the light yellow wall, lending a feeling of warmth and tranquility. The artist describes the image he saw one day when he woke up, the morning sun providing succor for his dispirited feelings the night before. Sad memories become faded dreams that once gone will never return.
