A Year in Pingtung

Artist KAO Zhao-Liang is adept at expressing life’s subtler emotions through the art of the still life. The subject of his piece A Year in Pingtung is an outdoor rooftop scene. In it, he deftly executes an everyday rooftop scene complete with a water tank, a solar panel and corrugated metal. The water tank, illuminated by the sun and set against the background of a cloudless blue sky, appears to glow. To Kao, the sunlight after a tropical rain and warm sunshine on a winter’s day are scenes worth waiting for. In this piece, Kao recalls a summer scene he saw back when he was a student in Pingtung, and presents cherished memories of those bygone days.
