LAI Yi-Jhih specializes in handling daily objects through new techniques. He assembles the readily available materials into small sculpture and combines with photography to turn the small sculptures into images. "Defence Mechanism Kicked Start by Shock” shows a thorny and yet sweet pink heart formed by plastic chains and toothpick. Eventually, this thorny heart dominates the center of the image, presenting the image of an extraordinary “object.” The artist uses the contradicting perception of vision to give a humorous analogy of the defending, binding and yet flippant psychological state of love.
