作品賞析
While growing up, LIN Ya-Han often got together with members of her family, combing and braiding each other’s hair. As such, she developed fond impressions of hair. In Cutting through the Dust I, she depicts the myriad appearances of hair through masterfully executed water-and-ink technique. In the scene, two tufts of long hair are visible, bunched into floral shapes. Below one of them is a pair of scissors shaped like a crane, poised to cut off a lock of hair. The changes in density of the ink work emphasize the hair’s long, elegant, undulating form. Upon careful observation, we see that each strand of hair is distinct, underscoring the refinement of the artist’s technique. The artist believes that the elegance and arrangement of the hair reflect a psychological state. By depicting hair in detail, Lin expresses the emotional atmosphere of both the individual and the external environment after agitation.
