LIOU Jia-Wei’s Inner Landscape series depicts a sense of interaction between self and others, exhibiting a shackled and chained mental state through compositions of entangled objects. In Inner Landscape III, Liou meticulously depicts a heap of interlinked chains in an endless darkness. The image is composed mostly of blacks and grays, with a hint of red giving a stark visual contrast. Liou deftly builds surreal moods through painting, creating new ways of viewing things in a flat, binary space, letting us into an empty yet mysterious world.
