CHEN Yen-Chih’s Generation of Weakness: Restrict conveys the insecurity, fatigue, and powerlessness of life in modern society. Depicted is a seemingly ordinary urban setting infused with the sense of dilapidation and lethargy with the oddly colored sky and the old abandoned buildings. Anti-collision bars form confinement where people are unable to escape from and describe the controls and fetters of life that people experience. CHEN Yen-Chih uses an analogy of symbols and icons to construct a virtual and surreal theme of isolation and to describe the state of modern individuals when facing anxiety, and restriction in surroundings.
