Artwork Appreciation
LIN Kuo-Wei has created a series of sculptures. By presenting children as the main characters, he reflects on the modern social power class system. Savlon Warrior is a copper sculpture coated with oil paint. On the surface, the texture is glossy and smooth. In a red bucket filled with bubbles, a child holds two water pistols, with determination in his eye, the child stares straight aggressively. LIN Kuo-Wei uses the puny image of the children to represent people of all ages. The children in his work serve as metaphors for the individual powerlessness in contemporary society. Contrast is shown in this scene, in the austere atmosphere, “Savlon Warrior” holds two guns to bathe in Savlon. The child obtains the courage to fight injustice, to contribute to society. One can be insignificant, but can’t be stagnant.
