Artwork Appreciation
CHEN Shiau-Peng’s works transformed from early reflection upon abstract concepts to a series exploring the relationship between individuals and cities. City Frame I – My New City is based upon the artist’s personal experiences living in the heart of Melbourne. Geometric elements such as straight lines, rigid shapes, and geometries are used together with basic contrasting colors in an attempt to create an urban space and the trails left by individuals pursuing activities within the city. CHEN Shiau-Peng uses the principles of modeling and color concepts, changing the meaning and functions of existing objects and signs, conveying the image of modern cities as well as the rhythm of life, and contemplating new possibilities for responding to the history of abstract painting.
