Artwork Appreciation
HUANG Po-Hsun’s Dear September, as usual, is a surrealist work with creative elements derived from everyday life and sensory experiences. The background is an interwoven matte of light orange and teal to create a broad view field. Brilliantly colored yet oddly shaped organic forms cluster to create a beautiful fantasy kingdom. HUANG Po-Hsun believes that viewers need not connect these forms to actual entities with similar appearances. Instead of trying to recognize or understand what the artforms might appear like, the most important thing for the viewer is to focus upon the sense of intuition. The artist took apart and re-assembled non-figurative forms to create a riotous carnival, portraying his burning desire for freedom and a deep enthrallment to visual aesthetics.
