LIN Ying-Chen’s paintings feature plants to convey the natural and emotional nature of life. Elegant to Exit has a background of different brushstroke textures and color patches against which a number of wilting, dying plants are shown. Despite the lifeless and depressing atmosphere, the absence of life does not mean the end. Instead, it is a symbol of hope and rebirth. The seeds will eventually be dispersed, land in a new place, and germinate into new life. LIN Ying-Chen uses dark color tones to contrast the real world against imaginary elements, and explores the primal and unending source of life by portraying plants in various stages of flowering, fruiting, and wilting.
