作品賞析
The Sculpture is an experimental documentary work by artist Musquiqui Chihying that explores contemporary international geopolitical relations. The film uses an interlaced approach to narrate the paths of African artworks moving southwards and eastwards in contemporary times. In recent years, Europe has actively addressed the “repatriation of cultural relics” issue, returning African artworks looted during the colonial period “southwards” back to African countries. Meanwhile, since China has been using the “Belt and Road” international diplomatic strategy to obtain natural resources and international support, African artworks have also been “moving eastwards,” even entering the National Museum of China in Beijing. This work examines the movement of African artworks between museums in the context of the history of European colonialism and the development of China’s modern economic policies, revealing the complex interweaving of museum aesthetics, culture, and politics.
