作品賞析
Artist Jhang Ru-An reexamines the relationship between dogs and humans from the perspective of power structure. Human beings will deliberately breed dogs according to various functions, such as drug detection dogs, guide dogs, and other working dogs, pet dogs mainly for companionship and entertainment, and so on. But in the artist’s mind, there is a kind of dog that is free from human beings’ confinement or objectification and can freely return to its natural life. She calls it a “natural dog,” which symbolizes the equal relationship between dogs and humans and is also the theme of this work. Jhang Ru-An uses flat brushes of varying sizes from 12 to 18, using different amounts of strength and pressure on the side of the pen to create a vivid grassland with three layers of earth tones, dark green, and fluorescent green. This leads the way of the viewers to imagine, whether the two white natural dogs in the painting are chasing, avoiding each other, or actually trying to get closer to one another.
