作品賞析
Coconut Tree depicts the view from artist Lee Ming-Kang’s home in Sanzhi during a typhoon. In the painting, a window view dominates, revealing coconut trees swaying in the wind and rain. The motion imparted by the typhoon blurs the trees’ shadows, forming a strong contrast with the rigid flywheel exercise bike indoors. This bike, used by the artist every day, symbolize self-discipline and becomes the focal point of the work. While the cold, hard window frame contrasts with the spontaneous rendering of the trees outside, Lee reorganizers his living space by breaking the objects into distinct areas of shape, texture, and color. In his process, Lee first uses washi tape to frame an area, allowing acrylic paint to flow naturally within it. By incorporating agents that produce varied effects, he embraces unexpected results. Through this experimentation, he seeks to explore new media and discover something about himself.
